From a nutritional quality point of view, most commercial dog food brands on the market are similar to human junk food. Can we expect to stay healthy when we eat junk food every single day? The same principle applies to our beloved dogs. However, some of the Commercial Dog Food brands are better than others. Still, in the end, they all are part of the same nutritional principle, which is actually at the expense of the dog's health.
The negative impacts of wrong nutrition on dogs' health are not seen right away. Still, they will eventually show up one way or another in different forms of disorders and diseases. If we want to make sure our dogs live a long healthy life, we should start to think about feeding them human-grade top quality healthy food. A study conducted by Lippert and Sapy (2003) evaluated the data from 500 dogs from 1998 until 2002. They reported that dogs fed with homemade fresh food lived 32 months longer than those fed commercial food.
Our AI creates tailor-made meals that are individually balanced for your dog, considering their unique needs. Every dog is different, so their food should be too. Things like age, breed, gender, weight, how active they are, and whether they're neutered, pregnant, or nursing all affect what nutrients they need. Our AI looks at up to 11 important factors, including breed, age, weight, and activity level, to figure out exactly what your dog needs. Then, it adjusts our ingredients to make a special recipe just for them. This way, your dog gets the right amount of protein, fiber, essential fats, vitamins, and other nutrients. No more guessing – your dog gets exactly what they need for their health.
Our food is made fresh and from scratch in our professional kitchen in Toronto 1-2 days before shipping and in accordance with the Ontario Food Safety Laws and Requirements. Cola supervises the whole process!
Short answer: We only use ingredients for our doggos that we're willing to put in our own food. That means only premium human-grade ingredients free of GMOs, antibiotics and other additives. We source all of our ingredients locally from vendors that we trust and have worked with for years.
The brutal truth is, unless a dog parent is an expert in animal nutrition, a homemade diet can be very difficult to get right. A dog needs more than 30 essential nutrients to stay healthy and in good shape, and providing the correct and balanced amounts of all of these nutrients can be very tricky. That is why many experts believe that dogs are better off with kibble than prepared fresh food at home without supervision. They believe kibbles might be incomplete and not well-balanced, but they are more balanced than most unsupervised self-prepared foods. Without the right amount and ratios of these nutrients, puppies could develop skeletal problems; pregnant dogs can face serious health problems after delivering their puppies. Adult dogs can face severe skeletal issues, especially when they become seniors. To learn more about the dangers of homecooked meals you can read our in-depth guide here.
Yes! Since the food is fresh, you should store it at the right temperature. The fridge or freezer are both acceptable.
We will always send a feeding guide with your order. Each package usually holds one day's worth of your pup's food. You can follow your regular feeding schedule for the day! We feed Cola 3 times a day, so we divide his package into three portions for him.
Most fresh dog food companies use a one-size-fits-all approach, similar to dry dog food. They might ask for your dog's details like age and breed, but they basically use the same recipes for all dogs. They just adjust the serving size based on your dog's information. To make sure these meals meet nutritional needs, they add synthetic nutrients, often labeled as "nutrient mix" or "nutritional additives." This method is like buying a ready-made suit. Mor often than not, it doesn't fit perfectly.
At Cola's Kitchen, however, we do things differently. We create each dog's meal plan based on their individual needs and health conditions. We use three sets of ingredients, and our AI technology designs a unique recipe for each dog. This recipe varies in ingredient amounts, tailored to each dog's specific requirements. Our method ensures that all necessary nutrients, including vitamins and minerals, come from natural sources in the food itself. We don’t need to add artificial supplements. This is similar to getting a tailor-made suit, designed to fit perfectly without any adjustments. To learn more about our food click here.
